Even if you’re not in the market for German steins, hand-made crafts, or another ornament for the tree, Zion Lutheran Church’s Christkindlmarkt is still a delicious way to kick off the holiday season. The traditional German Christmas fair runs Saturday, Nov. 27, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 28, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. It features sales of crafts and decorations as well as the best prices anywhere on imported German stollen, cookies (think lebkuchen and pfeffernüsse), and candies (marzipan and chocolate-loaded Advent calendars for kiddies; Asbach Uralt brandy-filled chocolates for adults). If you’re not a shopper, just stop by the church’s brick-walled courtyard for a freshly grilled bratwurst and a mug of hot Glüehwein, care of the Baltimore Kickers. There’s a $2 entry fee for the market.
